Success Story
VALERIE G.
Oregonia, Ohio
Surgery Patient
(October, 2005)
145 lbs. lost
Valerie was definitely out of sorts as an obese person. Her size made it difficult to move and she suffered from chronic back and foot pain. Her job as a corporate trainer exacerbated the situation, which required standing in front of groups for long periods of time. Adding insult to injury, she thinks she was the object of “obesity bias” in the workplace.
Valerie had battled her weight since puberty, starting with fad diets initiated by her mother. Repeated attempts to lose weight resulted in little or no success into adulthood – including Weight Watchers, the Atkins Diet and an addiction to ephedra for awhile. “Extreme diets would plateau my gaining, but never fostered much, if any, loss,” she recalled.
She became interested in bariatric surgery upon learning it was covered by one of her insurance plans. She thoroughly researched the topic, and understood well the advantages and disadvantages of the different procedures.
Bariatric surgery dramatically changed Valerie’s life! Her back and foot pain stopped. Meanwhile, her career began anew. Company superiors finally noticed her achievements and before long everyone knew her name. She eventually gained the confidence to apply for another job which she landed, along with a pay increase. Valerie is adamant that she would not have sought the position were it not for the self assurance that New Life weight loss surgery gave her. “I really can’t say enough good things,” she professed. “Dr. Anderson and her staff are very compassionate and they got just as excited about my success as I was.” Judging from the physical, emotional and professional results she now enjoys, no wonder she is an advocate of New Life Weight Loss Surgery Center.
The corporate trainer in Valerie is apparent when giving advice to anyone considering bariatric surgery. “Learn all about the available procedures. We are obese for different reasons and each procedure works in a different way,” she instructed. “You really need to take a deep look at your weight history and why you are obese,” she added, “then select the procedure most likely to give you success.”
“I have energy like never before. I gained the confidence to look for new opportunities and landed a fantastic job.”Valerie
